“HORTENSIA” SHORT FILM
CLIENT ANDRÉS REISINGER · DIRECTED BY MARIA SOSA · PRODUCED BY EL MAÑANA (SPAIN, 2022)

Hortensia is a tribute to the namesake chair by Andrés Reisinger. Conceived initially only as a conceptual piece (just a render),
it became a global internet sensation, forcing the artist to find a way to actually produce it.

I wanted the narrative of the piece to insist on this descent – from digital imperishability to material transience.
A film about the myth of a chair who gives away eternal life for the tangible pleasures of physical existence.

‘What does it take to be mortal?’ is one of the questions our chair asks herself, ready to pay the highest price
in order to “be touched, and shipped, and unpacked, and, have someone sit on me, and have someone desire me”.

The same existential threat can be found in Wim Wenders’s Wings of Desire, where an angel tires of his purely ethereal life
of merely overseeing the human activity of Berlin’s residents. Or in Pinocchio, Ghost and tons of other works of fiction.
